Beeswax Floating Candles: A fun summer project!

Now that we are in the midst of our summer season and finally able to enjoy small family gatherings safely, we want to create a memorable event. Our floating candle project is just what you need to make a beautiful centerpiece for such an occasion! These little candles are so charming, you’ll want to make a few for your centerpiece and a few to keep on hand to use as decorations for cakes or cupcakes. They are especially pretty if you make them two colors of wax. So, let’s get our supplies together & get started!

You will need:

  • Yellow Beeswax: 1 Daisy takes .7 oz. (Multiply .7 x number of candles.)
  • White Beeswax: .7 oz. (only if you are making the two-color daisies).
  • Floating Daisy Mold
  • Two Pyrex glass measuring cups
  • Pan big enough to place cup in for melting wax
  • 3-inch lengths of wicking # 2
  • 2-3 Rubber bands to hold the mold together
Let the wax cool in the mold until set Let the wax cool in the mold until set

Directions:

  • Prepare your mold with wick.
  • Place rubber bands around mold to prevent wax from leaking.
  • Place yellow beeswax in measuring cup. (need bullet on this item)
  • Place in pan of water on low heat until melted. You can do this with white wax as well, if you are making the daisy with yellow center and white petals.
  • Once melted, carefully pour the center only with yellow wax. Wait for a couple of minutes to solidify and then pour the white wax to fill the rest of the mold.
  • Let it set for approximately 1 hour.
  • Remove rubber band and carefully remove flower from the mold.
  • Trim wick on bottom of your candle and remove any excess wax on the bottom.

Repeat these steps for the number of floating flowers you decide to make. You can also pour solid yellow beeswax for a simpler look or reverse with a white center and yellow petals. Experiment and see which appeals to you.

Once you have completed your flowers you are ready to place them in a ceramic bowl, glass jar or wine glass with water. I tried a few different looks and added a few of our candles to the mix just for fun. I really love our sparrow molds! The tea lights, cylinder candles and ball candles add a size variation that is pleasing to the eye.

Rocks and leaves add a natural, relaxed look to an arrangement. Have fun playing with your ideas and stay inspired, ya’ll!
