American Foulbrood Test

American Foulbrood is caused by a spore forming bacterium that causes infected brood to disintegrate the cells, causing the cappings to look concave in appearance and give off a foul smell.

Note:

If you have some brood that looks diseased and both this test and the European Foulbrood Test are negative, you should consider chalkbrood, sacbrood, other viruses, and varroa mites causing Parasitic Mite Syndrome. Remember to report any positive results to your veterinarian or state apiculturist. They may be able to help you manage the disease.
