Queen Marking Pen

Marking a queen with a queen marking pen helps you to locate her so that you can safely transfer resources to other hives. You can also confirm that she has not been replaced. We recommend the Queen Marking Tube for safe and efficient queen marking. When using the Queen Marking Tube, place the queen in the tube and gently confine her against the plastic screen with the sponge plunger. Once she is confined against the plastic screen, gently mark her thorax with the queen marking pen.

There is a purpose to the color used to mark a queen! While you can purchase whatever color you wish, beekeepers use the following colors to track the age of their queens.

• Years Ending in #2 & #7: Yellow
• Years Ending in #3 & #8: Red
• Years Ending in #4 & #9: Green
• Years Ending in #5 & #0: Blue
