Queen Catching & Marking Tools

Marked queens are a smart option for the novice beekeeper: Marking makes the queen stand out clearly so she's easy to identify, and color-coding helps track the queen's age. We carry a wide array of queen catching tools and metal or plastic cages to help you safely capture queens, and a variety of queen marking pens and tags to clearly identify your queens. Whether you're selling queens or raising them for your own hives, find a variety of helpful queen catching tools and cages, including the California Mini Cage that we use when prepping our queens for sale.

While you can purchase whatever color you wish, beekeepers use the following colors to track the age of their queens:

  • Years Ending in #1 & #6: White
  • Years Ending in #2 & #7: Yellow
  • Years Ending in #3 & #8: Red
  • Years Ending in #4 & #9: Green
  • Years Ending in #5 & #10: Blue
