Instructional Sheet on Wooden Bee Frame Assembly

Instructional Sheets, beekeeping instructions, beekeepers facts,Wooden Frames,Wooden Frame Information

Shown above is a Wedge/Split Wooden Frame. This means the top bar (A) has a separate piece (B) to wedge the foundation (C). The bottom bar (D) is split into two pieces that the foundation will be sandwiched between. There are other types of wooden frames, but the general assembly is the same.

To assemble the frames, remove the wedge (B) from the top bar (A). Attach both sidebars (E) by nailing two 1-1/4" nails from the top (F). Insert one of the bottom pieces (D) into the side bar (E) and lay the foundation (C) on the frame so side with the protruding wire is against the top bar. The bottom of the foundation should cover about half of the frame bottom (D). Now, firmly press the wedge (B) against the foundation and the top bar, and using several 5/8" nails, nail the wedge to the top bar. Insert the second bottom piece (D) and nail both bottom pieces to the sidebars using 1-1/4" nails (H). Now nail the side bars to the top bar, but not the wedge, from the side using 1-1/4" nails (I). Lastly, insert two support pins per end bar or a total of four pins for each frame.
