Thank you for trying our Polystyrene hive top feeder. The feeder is designed to fit both our wooden bee hives and our polystyrene BeeMax hive, as a result the polystyrene hive will overhang below the feeder. Make the overhang roughly the same on all sides and the bees will have no trouble accessing the feeder. Moreover, if there are no holes in your telescope rim and it is not warped, no bees will be able to enter the feeder from outside.
The bees will enter at the front from the bottom and are kept from the bulk of the syrup by the "L" shaped plexiglass panel. Make sure that the long side of the "L" is inside the large reservoir. The hive top feeder will hold approximately 3 gallons of syrup.
We recommend that you paint the outside of the feeder with two coats of a good quality latex exterior paint.
When you are through using the feeder in the spring or fall wash the inside thoroughly and let it dry well before storing it. To clean any mold that might occur, use bleach then rinse thoroughly with clean water. You can also leave the feeder on all winter to increase top insulation.
