Betterbee is proud to introduce a queen muff designed to allow queen marking and the removal of attendant bees from queen cages before the queen is introduced to the colony. The unique feature of this muff is that it is large enough to accommodate a deep frame (not included) and includes a large Velcro secured flap that is used to place a frame of emerging brood into the muff. This allows the beekeeper to easily use a push-in queen cage (See Item code IQC) to confine the queen on the frame of emerging brood. The queen can begin to lay eggs and have newly emerged attendants with her before she is released into the colony. In practice, inside the queen muff the queen is removed from the shipping cage and confined--without bees--in a push-in cage over an area of nectar and emerging brood. The frame with the attached push-in cage is placed back in the hive receiving the queen. Three or four days later, the queen can be released by removing the push-in cage. Push-in cages are one of the most successful means to introduce new queens. The Betterbee queen muff allows beekeepers to place queens in push-in cages without fear of losing the queen.
