Sticky Board

A helpful tool in determining whether or not to treat your hive against varroa mites, using this sticky board can alert you whether or not your hive is in danger of a serious varroa infestation. Place this on your debris tray or slip it in under the varroa screen. Leave for 3 days and then remove and count the mites. Divide the total number of mites by 3 to get the mite drop per day. In the spring if you find more than 5, or in the fall if you find more than 10 — treat. The number of mites can be an indication of the need to treat with chemicals.
