A great labor saving device. We use these frames and like them. Why spend your time assembling frames when you could be working your bees and selling honey? There is no assembly required but we feel that there is better acceptance by the bees if extra beeswax is brushed or rolled onto the frames. Hint 1: These frames are pre coated with beeswax. We have found that adding additional wax greatly improves the acceptance of these frames by the bees and the rate that they will draw them out. We suggest melting beeswax and applying with a small paint roller or brush. You will need 1 to 1-1/2 pounds of wax for 10 deep frames and 2/3rds that amount for mediums. For safety reasons beeswax needs to be melted in a double boiler or crockpot. We are in investigating getting the manufacturer to add extra wax to these frames. We will hopefully have frames with more wax already applied in the future. We will also be running some trials with extra wax in our colonies this season. We want to determine how critical it is to fully cover the frames and to determine the optimal amount of wax to coat the frames with.
