A handy device for top feeding pollen substitute or applying pesticide patties. Place them on the top of the frames of the hive body to create a 1-1/2” space. The same size as our wooden hives, but can be used on the poly hives also. They come unassembled, but are predrilled and include screws. The entrance is sealable with a plug which can be removed for a winter entrance or for ventilation in the summer. When using the shim to apply pesticide patties that fumigate the hive, the hole should be plugged.
Note: One beneficial aspect of using a shim is that from the bees’ comb building activity in the spring, one can determine when the bees are ready for supering. If they start filling that empty space above the frames, you know you need to get more supers on the hive.
